How this is calculated
BLS publishes five points on each occupation's wage distribution — the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentiles — not a full curve. Salaries between those points are interpolated on a log scale, which fits wage data better than a straight line and avoids overstating percentiles in the wide gap between the 75th and 90th. Below the 10th or above the 90th we say so rather than extrapolating: those tails are exactly where the published data stops being informative. Figures are BLS OEWS, May 2025.
